John Crosby music publlcity/PR has been in operation since 1990, though John's experience of music media goes back to the early 1980s when he ran the press office at Topic Records.
He is the author of 'Professor Longhair: a bio-discography' (currently out of print). As a journalist, he was Folk and International Listings Editor for the now defunct CITY LIMITS, wrote regularly for almost a decade for both Q and MOJO magazines, was News Editor for the still very much alive fROOTS (formerly FOLK ROOTS), editor of RIGHT TRACK (the Ace Records newsletter) and contributed to such titles as HMV CHOICE, OLD TIME MUSIC, BLUES UNLIMITED and JAZZ EXPRESS magazines. Most recently (from February 2000-July 2001) he was Folk and Roots music critic at TIME OUT (London).
As a record/CD compiler and sleevenote writer, he has
worked on over 100 albums including the best-selling 'The Very Best Of Woody
Guthrie' (MCI), 'The Very Best Of Leadbelly' (MCI), 'The Very Best Of Cajun'
(Dino), Clannad 'An Diolaim' (MCI), June Tabor 'Anthology' (MCI), Mose Allison
'Sings And Plays' (Ace), the 10-CD series of albums titled 'Celtic Journey'
(Eureka/Beehive) and Fairport Convention 'Shines Like Gold' (Eureka/Beehive).
'American Roots-The Essential Album (featuring everyone from Flatt &
Scruggs to Eva Cassidy) and 'The Story Of Vee-Jay', a retrospective 2CD set
(featuring Jerry Butler, John Lee Hooker, Betty Everett, Jimmy Reed and many
more), were both released August 2002 on the Metro label via Union Square
Music.
John has just begun work on what will be a 4-CD career retrospective of blues guitar legend Peter Green. It is due for release in Autumn 2008. More details soon.
The rest of this site is a showcase for the artists that John works with in a PR capacity. If you are a singer or musician looking for a UK publicist, please contact John initially via telephone, fax or email (details are on the left of this page). |
